The Cypress Health Region has just declared an outbreak of Norovirus-like symptoms at the Swift Current Care Centre as advised by the Consulting Medical Officer, and will be prohibiting all visitors with exceptions made for ‘end of life’ situations.

So far, three long-term care residents and one staff member have been identified as experiencing symptoms.

The region’s Infection Control Team are involved with this situation and have already implemented enhanced cleaning processes in an attempt to stay on top of the virus and eliminate the risk of its spread to other residents or the community.

Samples have been collected and are en route to the Saskatchewan Disease Control Laboratory in Regina for testing.  Results are anticipated at some point over the weekend.

The public is encouraged to wash hands frequently and to stay home when ill to help prevent the spread of viruses.
