Order of Canada appointments seem to be very important to some. Morgentaler is one of those who feels that way. In an interview he stated how much he wanted one.
I am not one who values the institution. I hold, however, that he is deserving of the honour if courage, personal cost and suffering and a sincere desire to help keep our fellow citizens safe (remember he was only trying to keep abortions from occurring under dangerous circumstances - abortions remain a fact in our society.) is among the personal attributes the appointment is attempting to mark.
Further, to waylay those suggestions that there is personal gain by Morgentaler from operation of clinics it must be noted that such clinics other than those in Montreal and Nova Scotia are operated under the auspices of our system of medicare.
MP?David Anderson's request for the names of Council members is unreasonable. The Council should be allowed to operate free from all lobbying or bullying by politicians and churches in making what must be very difficult choices.
It is to Canada's credit that we can so publicly display our tolerance free from the prejudice of some of our so called leaders.
Morgentaler in a way is deserving
