One comment I need to make about the rat problem in Swift Current is that the city needs to wear glasses!

I have heard over the last few weeks that the rats are coming in really fast and hard near the Wal-Mart, Canadian Tire, and the newest Hotel in Swift Curren near the Casino. When I read a few weeks ago that the city is doing what it can, and there is no need for panic, I just thought, ok fine I will go along with it.

Now this moring on June 15 at 6:48 a.m. I saw two dead rats in the streets near the RCMP Rural Detachment. Strangely enough though they were cleaned up by 3 p.m. so no one knew any different.

Now, if the city cannot do anything about the problem and are restricting the use of pellet guns and .22s in city limits (do you want me to kill them with my bare hands), even the RMs offer free poison for rats and mice. Come on Mayor Sandy, let's keep our city clean and for crying out loud lets make LIFE MAKE SENSE in our city.

Please do something about this problem!

The fact that you saw two dead rats on the street, could possibly mean that the city of Swift Current IS doing something about the rat problem there. If there are indeed bait stations set up like they do in Estevan when the rat population rises, then perhaps these two dead rats indeed consumed some poison then wandered away to die. We too have rat problems here in Estevan and two summers ago it was common to see disoriented rodents wandering the residential streets where they eventually died of poisoning. I'm curious though as to what the City of Swift Current does tell residents when they've found a dead rat on or near their property. When I called the city of Estevan to report a dead rat, I was told to bag him and put him out with garbage pick up the following Friday. Now that is disgusting! Good luck with the rats, hopefully something is being done there. I lived in Swift Current for almost ten years before moving here and during my time there I never once saw a rat. It wasn't until we moved here that rats sort of became commonplace.
