Southwest residents are invited to join people around the world and participate in Saturday's Earth Hour initiative.
Earth Hour, celebrated from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, is a global initiative designed to raise awareness to the issue of climate change. Homeowners and businesses are invited to turn off their lights to show their support for Earth Hour.
"Participating in Earth Hour is a great way to demonstrate how simple individual acts can make a big difference, and help us protect our planet for future generations," explained Minister of Crown Corporations Ken Cheveldayoff.
SaskPower has announced they will track electricity use in the province during Earth Hour, to measure how Saskatchewan's participation compares to the rest of the world.
The website earthhour.org is hoping to generate support from one billion people.
Earth Hour, sponsored by the World Wildlife Fund, was originally launched in Sydney, Australia in 2007, and approximately 50 million people in 35 countries participated.
