Gull Lake and Maple Creek are among 25 communities taking part in the 2013 in motion Community Challenge that will see the winning community awarded a grand prize of $10,000 to fund a project that will engage residents in physical activities.

The online challenge began Mar. 1 and continues through Mar. 15, with the winner to be announced Mar. 18.

To win, a community must rally friends, neighbours, co-workers, teachers, and families to register their minutes of daily physical activity each day on the in motion Community Challenge website.

Activity minutes can be assigned towards the community project of an individual’s choice. The community that acquires the most minutes of physical activity registered on the Challenge website from March 1 – 15 will win $10,000.

The prize money must fund a project that will increase physical activity opportunities for children, youth and families in the community.

If Gull Lake wins the 2013 Community Challenge, they will increase physical activity for their community by installing an ENERGI Prime Total Body Fitness System in the park for everyone to use. The equipment provides a fun and exciting way to improve health and fitness levels through movements used in every day activities.

If Maple Creek is declared the winner of the 2013 Community Challenge, they will increase physical activity for the kids in their community by installing new play equipment at the Sidney Street School and Community Playground. Their goal is to help motivate and entice kids to be active and to provide a safe play area that will continue to build active kids, which will hopefully create active adults.
