The SADD Chapter at SCCHS has won the 2011-2012 Nicole Nakonechny Memorial Award for Saskatchewan’s most active chapter, and SCCHS Chapter President Jordan Gruetzner has won the 2011-2012 RCMP SADD Leadership Award.
The RCMP Leadership Award is a provincial award for students and teachers and advisors nominate their extra ordinary SADD students into this award category.
Gruetzner said he became a member of SADD because he wanted to make a difference in this world.
“My friends were in it so I joined and it was a good way to make a difference,” Gruetzner said in an interview prior to a SADD meeting on Nov. 2.
Leadership Award Medals are presented to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to their SADD chapters during the school year. Students are nominated for these awards by their teachers or fellow SADD members. Approximately eight Leadership Awards are presented throughout the province each year.
The SCCHS Chapter also won the Nicole Nakonechny Memorial Award, established in 1989 to recognize Nicole's contribution to SADD and to encourage young people to follow her example. Since 1989 the award has been given out annually to the SADD chapter that has been most active in that year.
“We got $1,000 with the award for the SADD Chapter, from just doing lots of activities throughout the year and raising awareness.”
