The Saskatchewan Prairie Conservation Action Plan (SK PCAP) invites Saskatchewan youth to illustrate how they enjoy native prairie ecosystems through a poster contest.
“We are encouraging all youth to learn about the important role that native prairie has within our province as well as the species at risk that these ecosystems support,” said Tara Mulhern Davidson, SK PCAP Manager.
The poster contest is a preamble to the 16th Annual Native Prairie Appreciation Week (NPAW), an initiative started by SK PCAP, which runs June 15 to 21. The theme for this year's event is From Roots to Shoots.
"Our goal for the poster contest is to encourage youth to get outside and experience native prairie. The winning entries will help SK PCAP increase appreciation of this valuable natural resource and help promote the upcoming Native Prairie Appreciation Week.”
The Poster Contest is open to all Saskatchewan youth ages 5 to 16 and the deadline for poster submissions is June 2nd. The winning entries will be announced at the annual Society for Range Management Tour on June 19th. The winner of each age category will receive a Butterfly Garden Native Flower Seed Kit. The top three posters of each category will also appear on the SK PCAP website, Facebook page and Twitter account. All entries will be on display at the Society for Range Management Banquet on June 19th, which is taking place in Val Marie.
