Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday, is a celebration with deep historical roots all over the world. This year, Swift Current will begin its own Mardi Gras tradition by celebrating the food and music of Bourbon St. in New Orleans.
The Lyric Theatre is hosting a Mardi Gras themed “Taste It” event. Admission is $15, which includes live musical entertainment, a drink, beads and a mask. Food samples will be individually priced so you can try everything and have seconds of your favourite. The vittles will be prepared by talented local chef Doug Lam and will include blackened Cajun chicken, jambalaya, étouffée with grits, Cajun seafood balls, Creole fried rice, shrimp hush puppies, bourbon pecan pie, and more.
Cajun music will be performed by local musicians Marc Ruel, Michael Eckert-Lyngstad, Marshall Perry, Amanda Ruel and Stewart Wells.
Enjoy good music, indulge in amazing food, and celebrate Mardi Gras in style at the Lyric Theatre on March 8th. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the tasting begins at 6:30 p.m. Call 306-773-6292 or visit www.lyrictheatre.ca for tickets or more information.
