Walking for Wellness returns this week

With the cool weather making a return, the popular indoor Walking for Wellness program is back in Swift Current.

Developed to provide a safe place to walk and stay in motion during the fall and winter months, this five day a week walking program starts Oct. 15.

The evening program takes place at the Swift Current Comprehensive High School on Mondays and Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and the morning program takes place at the Stockade Mondays to Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The evening program is free and the morning program costs $1 each day or $4 for the week.

Walking is one of the safest and easiest ways to incorporate physical activity into your daily life. Some of the benefits of walking include:

- Strengthens your heart, muscles and bones

- Helps alleviate symptoms of depression

- Improves fitness; and

- Reduces body fat

“The Walking for Wellness program is a great way to be physically active in a safe environment during the winter months and is also a great way to volunteer while you exercise,” said Val Choo-Foo, Swift Current’s In Motion Community Facilitator. “The evening Walking for Wellness program is run by volunteers so please come out and volunteer while you are in motion.”
