Tickets for the 2013 Stamp Out Asthma Raffle are now on sale. If you won the grand prize of up to $126,000, you could make some of your dreams come true.

“When our daughter Paige was born and we heard her cry for the first time, we were overjoyed,” shares Lisa, mother of a child with asthma. “But our dreams for her were almost cut short when, at three weeks of age, we rushed her to emergency because she was struggling to breathe. That was the beginning of a trend of ear infections, fevers, coughs, and difficulty breathing.”

Lisa and her husband contacted The Lung Association and a certified respiratory educator gave them the support and guidance that they needed. With this advice and through a visit to a pediatrician, Paige was diagnosed with asthma.

“Over the years The Lung Association has been an invaluable source of information as we learned about the things that trigger Paige’s asthma and how to control it through the correct use of her medications and through education,” states Lisa.

Along with an opportunity to win the grand prize, each ticket also gives you two chances to win a dream vacation worth $5,500 (choose your own destination) or take $5,000 cash; ten chances to win a $100 Visa gift card, and many exciting electronic prizes, all with cash payout options. Visit www.raffle.sk.lung.ca for a complete listing (Lottery License #LR13-0022 – intended for Saskatchewan residents only). Tickets are still only $35 each, two for $60, or four for $100. Purchase a four-pack and your name will be entered into a bonus draw for $1,444 cash. Deadline to purchase tickets is midnight on Nov, 29. Draw will take place on Dec. 6.

Your purchase will help the thousands of children in Saskatchewan that are affected by asthma. They dream of doing everything other kids do and not being hindered by their illness. Funds raised through this project will:

- Train health care professionals throughout the province to become certified asthma educators to provide up-to-date information and support for good asthma management.

- Provide access to useful and practical written and on-line information to help parents of children with asthma and persons with asthma and their families manage the disease.

- Run the Asthma Help Line for Saskatchewan residents to call in to speak with a nationally certified asthma educator (1-888-566-LUNG).

- Support globally-recognized researchers at the University of Saskatchewan in the study of asthma.

Asthma is a chronic lung disease which can result in breathing problems such as coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, or tightness in the chest. Asthma can develop at any age, but is most common in children. In Saskatchewan, 15 per cent to 20 per cent of our children have asthma. Approximately 60 per cent of people with asthma between the ages of 18 and 54

do not have optimal control. This leaves them open to frightening and sometimes life-threatening attacks. Medication and education are currently our best tools for managing asthma while our researchers search diligently for a cure. That is why your support of the 2013 Stamp Out Asthma Raffle is so important.

“Please consider purchasing tickets so The Lung Association can continue helping families just like ours!” urges Lisa. Visit www.raffle.sk.lung.ca or call 1-888-566-LUNG (5864) during business hours or 1-866-95LOTTO (1-866-955-6886) evenings and weekends to order your tickets by phone.
