Southwest musicians are well represented in the list of finalists for 2013 Saskatchewan Country Music Association awards.
Will Ardell heads the Southwest nominees with five category nominations, including being named as one of five finalists for Male Vocalist of the Year. Ardell has also earned nods for Song of the Year for his tune Save Me, he is a finalist in the Rising Star Award, plus his debut album All About The Ride is one of five finalists for Album of the Year. His fifth nomination came in the Video of the Year category for Save Me.
The Midnight Roses are one of five finalists in the Group of the Year category. The Swift Current based group features Myshel Pajuaar, Liza Holder, Paula McGuigan and Eliza Doyle. Last year, Myshel Pajuaar and The Midnight Roses wowed the judges enroute to winning the Big Dog 92-7/Astra Media's The Next Big Thing country talent competition.
Eliza Doyle is also a nominee for SCMA All Star Band in the specialty instrument category for her banjo talent.
The Southwest boasts two of the five nominees in the Roots Album of the Year category. Dave Cyca was nominated for his debut recording One of These Days, while Mark Penner earned a nomination for his album The Cabin Door. Penner was also one of six finalists in the All Star Band guitar player category and was one of five nominees in the Recording Studio category for Mark Penner Studio.
Glenna Switzer earned an All Star Band keyboard nomination.
The winners will be announced at the SCMA Awards in Saskatoon on April 27.
