Mark Berube's multi-instrumental gifts, lyrical precision and luscious voice have been cutting a memorable line through the fog of pop/folk predictability for a long time now. Having spent his childhood in the small African country of Swaziland in the 80's, the music of artists like Hugh Masekela, Myriam Makeba, Abdullah Ibrahim, and Paul Simon's epic album "Graceland", fused with his parents' North American folk music collection, left a very strong impression on him and greatly influences his music today.
His band The Patriotic Few all bring their own distinct musical backgrounds to the songs, ranging from jazz, classical, folk, choral, world, and rock music. With this powerful combination, the band continually turns audiences inside out with some of the most soulful music out there.
The performance is at the Lyric Theatre, and tickets are $30, available at Pharmasave or by calling Shann at 306-778-2686 or email at srgowan@yourlink.ca.
