The Southwest Literacy Committee, with funding from a Community Initiative Grant, has developed a School Readiness Kit for three and four year olds in the Swift Current area.
The kit is free of charge and was designed to assist parents in preparing their children to enter the school system.
Recent studies have shown that some children are not as well prepared as they could be when they enter the school system.
The workbook and tips for parents provide activities and ideas that will assist parents in their role as a child’s first and best teacher.
The kit has been evaluated and supported by the Holy Trinity Catholic School Division, and librarian Chris Harrow and his staff at Chinook Regional Library’s Swift Current Branch have agreed to distribute the kits.
The kits can be picked up at the Swift Current Branch of the Chinook Regional Library (411 Herbert St. E) and are available beginning Thursday, Aug. 16.
This is a pilot project so there are a limited number of kits available at this time. Feedback from the parents who use these kits would be appreciated by the Southwest Literacy Committee. All evaluations that are returned will be entered to win a $50 gift card.
Each kit contains:
• Workbook for the child
• Tips for Parents
• Scissors
• Crayon
• 2 books
• Evaluation Sheet
