Swift Current is asking residents to make one more pledge in the month of December to help the community win $10 000 for our youth. Pledge to do just one thing to make physical activity the easy choice for kids – simple things like walking to school, trading 30 minutes of on screen time for 30 minutes of physical activity or walking the dog.  Every pledge from our community puts us one step closer to winning $10 000 which would be put towards expanding the after-school youth fitness program called Fit for Fun.

“Our pledge numbers for Swift Current keep slowly increasing which is great,” said Val Choo-Foo, In Motion Community Facilitator for Swift Current. “However, we have been sitting in fourth place for most of the challenge behind the town of Unity who has held first place. With a population of about 17,000 people, I know that Swift Current could easily be in first place if we all took a few minutes to make the pledge.”

Mayor Jerrod Schafer was the first to make a pledge in the In Motion Community Pledge Challenge. He believes in the importance of a healthy, active community and challenges all of you to take the pledge. “Make the right choice by pledging in the challenge and helping our youth win $10 000,” he said.

A panel of judges will choose the top five finalist communities based on the strength and creativity of their entries and the number of pledges they collect before Dec. 30. The winning community will be chosen through an on-line public vote that will take place from Jan. 17 to 29, 2012.

“To make it to the final round, we’ll need as many pledges as possible,” says Choo-Foo “So Swift Current what are we waiting for? Let’s get as many pledges as we can, our kids are counting on us!”

Go to www.pledge.jumpin.ca then click on Pledge to Take Action. You will then need to login, create an account and set up your profile. This takes a few minutes. And after you pledge, please let Rec and Parks know because each week, one lucky person who pledges will win a prize.
