Mail Art Olympix is an innovative exhibition on display at the Art Gallery of Swift Currrent from Nov. 26 to Dec. 30, featuring submissions from artists around the world, many in colourfully decorated envelopes, that were generated to help celebrate the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
The exhibition has been brought to Swift Current because one of the city’s local artists, David Tuttle, is featured in the show. Tuttle will be available on Dec. 10 at 10:30 a.m. for a public guided tour.
Mail Art Olympix was the initiative of Vancouver Art Curator Ed Varney, who staged the event there to parallel the 2010 Winter Olympics, featuring three “events” including Self Portrait, ArtiStamps and Manifestos, and garnering submissions from more than 350 artists representing 41 countries.
The exhibition features more than 1000 mail-art works from around the world. For more information, or to arrange a guided group tour, call the Art Gallery of Swift Current at 306-778-2736.
