A special recognition day is being observed today, with Saskatchewan proclaiming Sept. 6 as Provincial Students' Day.

Provincial Students' Day was proclaimed by Minister of Education Donna Harpauer in response to a resolution passed at the Saskatchewan School Boards Association's (SSBA) annual convention.

"The students and youth of Saskatchewan are our future. Having a special day set aside to recognize this fact would contribute to their importance and help to alert all drivers that students are back in school and extra care for their safety should be considered," the SSBA resolution stated.

Sandi Urban-Hall, President of the SSBA said, "Children and youth are the future of Saskatchewan. They are eager to learn and grow - and ready to make their mark on this great province of ours. All Saskatchewan school divisions wish students all the best for a productive and successful school year and thank the families and communities for their ongoing support of these students."
