A truck full of generously donated items were dropped off at the SPCA Shelter in Swift Current on Dec. 21, courtesy of pet lovers in Leader and surrounding areas.

For the second year in a row, the tandem of Jill Erickson of Counrty Critters Dog Grooming and Jen Scory from Salon J in Leader coordinated a drive to collect items for the SPCA. They were again overwhelmed by the support of people responding to their plea, and they had the pleasure of delivering a half-ton truck filled with a variety of donated items. They dropped off dog and cat food, blankets, bedding, treats, toys, cleaning supplies, along with approximately $250 in cash donations.

“This is our closest shelter and it’s a cause that we really believe in,” Scory said moments after dropping of the outpouring of generosity they collected.

“We think if there’s a lot more publicity about it, that maybe people would be more apt to adopt from Shelters. I got two of my dogs from here and they’re excellent dogs,” Erickson added.

They highlighted that donations came from Leader, Prelate, Sceptre, Portreeve, Abbey, Lancer, Cabri, Maple Creek, Mendham, Liebenthal, Fox Valley.

Both were admittedly surprised by the amazing outpouring of generosity from these small towns and communities.

“We’re very, very passionate about this and as you can see that there’s so many other people that are really passionate too. We’re just so proud of all our towns,” Erickson said.

“There are obviously lots of people that feel the same way about animals that we do,” Scory commented.

They hope to conduct their SPCA Christmas drive again in 2010 and have an even larger impact with their donation next year.
