The first three days of advance polls for the Saskatchewan General Election have already approached the total number of advance ballots cast four years ago.

The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer stated that as of Nov. 3, after three days of advance polls, 41,198 eligible voters had cast their ballots for the Saskatchewan General Election.

The total turnout for five days of advance polls for the 2007 General Election was 49,572 voters.

Advance polls are set up for eligible voters who will be unable to attend their regular voting location on Election Day, have a physical disability, election officers or persons acting as candidate’s representatives.

Advance polls are open today from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., and for the final day on Saturday, November 5 from noon to 7 p.m.

Persons who vote at an advance poll and are on the Voters’ List will be required to sign a declaration prior to being given a ballot. In addition to making the declaration, voters are required to show satisfactory proof of identity and place of ordinary residence or have another voter who has valid authorized ID vouch for the identity and residence of the voter.

Eligible voters whose names are not on the Voters’ List will still be allowed to vote, providing a declaration is signed along with presenting satisfactory proof of identity and place of ordinary residence. If proof of identity cannot be presented, a voter with valid authorized ID can vouch for the identity and place of ordinary residence of the voter who wishes to cast a ballot. A voter can only vouch for one person in the election.

Acceptable ID can be photo ID issued by a government agency with your name and address (e.g. driver’s licence) or two original pieces of valid authorized ID. Both pieces must have your name and one piece must have your address (e.g. health card and utility bill).

Election Day is November 7.
