A couple from Shaunavon are the ecstatic parents of the region’s New Year’s Baby.

Addison Jean Smith was born at the Cypress Regional Hospital at 6:37 p.m. on January 1, 2012 to Kim Oliver and Nicholas Smith of Shaunavon.

“She weighed seven pounds, three and a half ounces,” said Kim, but they didn’t have an official measured length for their daughter.

Nicholas admitted, “I wasn’t a very good coach until after I started mimicking all the RNs. About halfway through the labour I became a half decent coach, I think.”

Nicholas is originally from Nova Scotia, and Kim is from Rosetown. They are both absolutely thrilled with their new little girl.

“This was planned,” explained Nicholas. “We went through a miscarriage earlier in 2011, then they told us not to try for a while, and we said, ‘we’re already pregnant again’, so she’s a miracle."
