The final phase of construction at A.C.T. Park playground is set to commence this week.
The Pour & Play surface, with installation scheduled to begin this week, is a specialized surface that allows for easy mobility throughout the play equipment, while still maintaining a safe base beneath the equipment. Community Services is optimistic that the City’s first all-accessible play structure will be completed in the very near future.
“The City is working with contractors to ensure the Pour & Play rubberized surface is installed properly and the playground unit meets all safety inspections before it is officially back open to the public. The Pour & Play surface could not be installed until overnight temperatures were consistently well above freezing, with no chance of frost,” Dean Robson, Community Services General Manager said. “It has been a long wait, but Community Services is excited about the upgrades to A.C.T. Park and the opportunities this new structure will provide the community in the areas of accessibility for all. We really appreciate residents’ patience as we waited for the proper weather conditions to allow us to install the Pour & Play surface.”
The old play equipment at A.C.T. Park was replaced with new all-accessible play equipment in late August of 2013. Completion was held up due to an early winter and late spring. As soon as the playground is safe for public usage, it will be open to the public. Construction at A.C.T. Park will continue throughout the summer season with upgrades to the washrooms to make them accessible. All construction areas will be fenced off for the safety of the public while work is completed.
