The Swift Current Oratorio Choir celebrates World Choral Day on December 8 by presenting “Music for a Winter Night”, with special guest Prairie Spirit.

With snow on the ground and falling temperatures, the season for Christmas music is beginning. However, “Music for a Winter Night” is more than just Christmas. The choir will present a wide range of music, from Gordon Lightfoot’s “Song for a Winter’s Night” to more traditional favourites like “White Christmas”. The concert will include light-hearted folk songs and contemporary arrangements, in addition to the traditional songs and carols.

The Swift Current Oratorio Choir is continuing to build on its 40-year history of choral music in the Swift Current area. The choir’s talent and dedication to excellence has resulted in an invitation to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York in January. Prairie Spirit is a new, auditioned choral group in Swift Current. Both choirs are directed by Marcia McLean, and accompanied by Sheila Braun.

The Swift Current Oratorio Choir is a community choir based in Swift Current, but which brings together singers from all over Southwest Saskatchewan. Having so many choir members travelling from the Southwest has encouraged the choir to perform their concert in Shaunavon, in addition to a performance in Swift Current.

“Music for a Winter Night” will be performed at Centre Street United Church in Shaunavon on Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m., and on Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m .at Zion Mennonite Church in Swift Current.

Tickets for each concert will be $15 in advance, or $20 at the door. Advance tickets for the Dec. 7 performance are available at Andersboda in Shaunavon, or at Pharmasave in Swift Current for the concert on Dec. 8.
