The fun and celebrating during the annual Night Out in Greece fundraiser is certainly only half of the story when it comes to this important community event.

Dr. Noble Irwin Regional Healthcare Foundation Executive Director Clay Thompson shared that the proceeds from the annual fundraiser have had a profound impact on healthcare in Swift Current.

Saturday marked the 15th annual fundraiser by the Swift Current Greek Community, with another capacity audience generously supporting the initiative in support of the Healthcare Foundation.

"It’s the 15th time that at least part of the proceeds have come through the Foundation and help us to support healthcare in southwest Saskatchewan. I think that’s really worthy and something that really deserves everyone saying thank you," Thompson told the sold out crowd.

"Over 15 years the Foundation has been to the tune of over $700,000 that has been turned back into the healthcare needs of southwest Saskatchewan."

"The cardio pulmonary department at Cypress Regional Hospital is known as the Greek Orthodox cardio pulmonary department, because most of that equipment that went into that department when the new hospital opened was provided because of this Night Out in Greece. I can also tell you that since my time with the foundation, there’s been equipment installed in the emergency room, the operating room, the women and children’s ward, and in all of the long term care facilities. And again, it’s all thanks to the Greek community for gathering us together every year to put on this fabulous evening."

Proceeds from the 2013 Night Out in Greece will be used to help purchase a new infant warmer for the maternity ward.

"Healthcare in southwest Saskatchewan is a whole lot better because of the Greek Orthodox community," Thompson emphatically stated. "While we owe them a great big bed of gratitude for their 15 year commitment to this project, I think you should all remember that success is more often than not the result of partners coming together and making something happen. Certainly, the Greek community comes together to host this event, but it’s all you people that come here year after year. We get together to enjoy some Greek hospitality and enjoy a fabulous meal and enjoy some good entertainment, but you too should remember that you’re apart of that successful partnership. That you’re willingness to partner with the Greek community by attending, that makes this event such a huge success every year. The Greek community then is wiling to partner with us for allowing us to partner with the Cypress Health Region to make positive changes to healthcare. I think it’s a partnership that works really well and has for the last 15 years, and hopefully will for another 15 years in the future."
