Frauds circulating in Southwest

RCMP in the Southwest are advising the public of a series of scams which are currently circulating in the region.

The Swift Current Rural RCMP are advising a number of individuals have been contacted as part of a phone scam. Individuals are contacting local residents pretending to be relatives. As part of the scam the person states they are being held by police and facing criminal charges. In order to help them out, they are asking that a sum of money be sent by Western Union to ensure their release.

If you are contacted regarding this scam, do not send any funds and contact your nearest RCMP.

The Shaunavon RCMP are also reminding Southwest residents of a series of phone/internet scams that are presently occurring in Shaunavon and surrounding areas.

If you, or someone you know, is a victim of a scam, report the crime to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or visit www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca.

Additionally, frauds can be reported to Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), through SaskTel Mobility at *8477, text TIP206 plus your message to CRIMES (274637) or submit a tip online at www.saskcrimestoppers.com.
