The combined efforts of SGI Salvage and Saskatchewan’s independent auto recycling industry have made history with the creation of the Saskatchewan Automotive Recyclers Association, the newest full member of Automotive Recyclers of Canada (ARC), the national voice of the automotive recycling industry that provides a forum for channeling information and addressing Canada-wide automotive recycling concerns.

Officially, SARA was formed in June of 2011, but has just installed its first Board of Directors. They include local businessman Alan Fontaine, owner and manager of Vic’s Automotive in Swift Current, elected as Vice-Chairperson, as well as Chairperson Jack Smith of Top Line Salvage in Moose Jaw and Secretary/Treasurer Cheryl Hoimyr of SGI Salvage, Regina.

Smith noted, “The truth is, not everyone handles end of life vehicles the way they should. No other product on earth is recycled more than an automobile so we need to be responsible in the process.

“We have auto recyclers across the province taking part in this program, and we encourage people to contact the SARA members in their area before retiring their vehicles.”

SARA members have spent significant resources to build and maintain facilities specifically designed to capture, store and properly dispose of harmful materials.

Parts offered by the program are called “greenparts”. They are OEM genuine parts made to original manufacturer’s specifications, road tested and guaranteed to fit.

By using greenparts, the public can help to sustain a modern global recycling industry that reclaims over 12 million vehicles across North America annually. People who use greenparts are making the ultimate environmental choice: the amount of toxic oils and fluids safely reclaimed every year by auto recyclers is equivalent to eight Exxon Valdez disasters.

Other members of SARA include: Redwing Auto Recyclers, Prince Albert; Dale & Lisa’s Farm & Auto, Mossbank; Southside Auto Wreckers, Weyburn; and Affiliated Auto Wrecking, Saskatoon.

Neat! It's nice to see professional, legitimate auto recyclers get recognition. The formation of SARA is definitely a boost for the auto recycling industry in Saskatchewan.
