Showcasing Swift Current as a great place to do business will be a focus for new Swift Current Chamber of Commerce president Jason Regier.

Regier was selected as incoming president to replace outgoing president Shaunna Fjaagesund at the Chamber's annual meeting last week.

"I think first and foremost we are a member organization so as I try and do in my own business here, with members or customers you really try to show them value for money," Regier said. "A dollar is really hard to earn these days so you really have got to show them good value for their investment, for their money, for their membership and so that is listening to members and what they have to say. It is representing members well. I think that always has to be primary on our focus.

"We have to be good stewards of Swift Current, the beautiful city in which we live in and to show them that we are a going concern for business, we are going concern for business growth. Saskatchewan is a good place and Swift Current is the best place in Saskatchewan to do business so we really have to get that message out there and showcase our members and what they can do too."

Last year, when the chamber celebrated their 100th anniversary, was a time of positive change for the Chamber.

"We saw some growth with respect to the numbers of new businesses. We saw some changes with respect to us physically moving from the Chamber's Visitors Centre which is where we were in to the Entrepreneurial Centre. We have seen some really positive things there with respect to working closer with other organizations and that sort of thing."

He is also excited for the year ahead.

"As I sit around the table with other Saskatchewan businesses or as I sit around the table with Swift Current businesses primarily you see that everyone is poised for growth. They are poised to take advantage of opportunities," he said. "Saskatchewan is in a pretty good place and we are going to take advantage of that...it doesn't mean that they are not kind of going in to it with both eyes open, but they are not focusing like the rest of the world. They are not really focusing on what has happened. They are kind of looking forward to what can happen while keeping their own businesses intact."
