The Swift Current and District Chamber of Commerce has been going through many changes and improvements over the past six months. The most recent update is an internal realignment for the organization as four of it’s board of directors positions will be opened up for new representation this year. There are six individuals who are nominated and will be letting their names stand for these positions.
“We have a great group of individuals who sit on the Chamber’s board of directors,” says Swift Current and District Chamber of Commerce CEO Darla Lindbjerg, “This year, we have four positions becoming vacant and it is a great opportunity for our membership to speak to who they want representing them when it comes to business interests and issues at the board table. The individuals elected will represent our Swift Current and area business community. They will ultimately be giving me direction in the coming year as well as bringing members’ issues to the table.”
The Swift Current & District Chamber of Commerce exists solely to serve, protect and promote local business interests. Lindbjerg explained, “The Chamber of Commerce does this through advocacy with local, provincial and federal governments when issues or concerns arise for our membership, we assist and provide our membership with development and educational opportunities for their management and staff teams to strengthen their organizational structures and we create opportunities for our membership to connect with other local businesses with the goal of building relationships and ultimately growing business.”
Many new and exciting activities are happening under the watch of the Chamber’s new CEO and the organization’s board of directors. “We have just launched our new website which will act as a tool for the community to help find businesses faster than they have before” said Lindbjerg, “We encourage the business community to go onto the website and see what events are coming up. If they feel these events are of interest, they are welcome to register.”
Voting for the nominated 2014 board of directors opened March 17th and will close March 24th. “Each member organization will receive one vote” explained
Lindbjerg, “Once all ballots are counted and double-checked, we will be announcing the newest members of our board at our Annual General Meeting held April 1 at Living Sky Casino. We encourage our membership to come out that day for both our Annual General Meeting at 6:30 p.m. and the event just preceding it - the Property Tax Assessment Process at 4 p.m.”
