Allen Kuhlmann of Vanguard has been elected as a director of the Saskatchewan Barley Development Commission.

Kuhlmann was one of six individuals elected to the board and one of three selected to serve a four-year term during this first selection of a producer elected board. Kuhlmann joins other elected representatives Jason Skotheim of Spruce Home, Brent Johnson of Strasbourg, Cam Goff of Hanley, Jeff Mathieson of Regina, and Zenneth Faye of Foam Lake.

There were 549 mail-in ballots cast by producers in the barley commission election.

The SBDC hosts their annual meeting on Jan. 13 in Saskatoon.

The SBDC, formally established in June 2013, is a producer-led organization established to build a platform for growth in the province's barley industry. Check-off dollars administered by the SBDC will go toward research, market development and promotion initiatives that will lead to improved barley varieties, grow their marketability and provide higher value to producers.
