The Harper government's reign of terror against the CWB continues. Their hand picked CEO, Greg Arason, fired VP of Communications Deanna Allen without cause. Why was Ms Allen fired without cause? I believe Ms Allen was fired because she did her job and was obviously standing up for the farmers and the CWB.
When Greg Arason was hired he signed a personal services agreement with the then CWB Minister Chuck Strahl. The agreement with Strahl created a bizarre situation where Arason, the CEO, could not promote the CWB or the single desk. Arason and the other CWB haters appointed by the Harper Government view their task as attacking the CWB and to end single desk selling. Canadian Press quotes Arason, as saying abandoning the barley market would hardly be fatal to the organization. The board should have fired Mr. Arason for that comment.
Where does Arason go after this despicable action? He goes on vacation. When he returns he has only two weeks of his term left. So why the hasty decision to fire Allen without cause? Did Arason engineer this to pave the way for the new CEO, Ian White, and to fulfill his personal services agreement?
It is also reported the CWB chair Ken Ritter went along with Arson's orders. Ritter also showed little courage and was unavailable for comment about the Allen situation.
It is also reported that Arason and Ritter joined with the Harper-Strahl appointees and selected Ian White to become the new CEO. White has a dubious record at best with Ag Pro Grain a division of Sask Wheat Pool. Why would Ritter even consider hiring an executive from Saskatchewan Wheat Pool? They have failed farmers in the past. White will probably receive a salary three times what the board was paying Measner. Is this good business? Harper's appointed CWB haters enjoy this; they don't want the board to succeed.
Harper's reign of terror on the CWB has resulted in a S credit rating downgrade which costs farmers millions in increased borrowing costs. The firing of highly respected CEO Adrian Measner and now a senior VP Deanna Allen is tragic. The Harper government continues to undermine the CWB with its customers and farmers.
It is time for the chair of the CWB board of directors Mr. Ken Ritter to stand up for farmers and ignore the idle threats of the Wheat Board Minister Gerry Ritz. Mr. Ritter you represent the farmers not the malting companies, grain companies or Minister Gerry Ritz.
