A belated congratulations to the Grad Class of 2012.
I attended the cap and gown ceremony for the Swift Current Comprehensive High School graduating class on June 27, and it was a pleasure to see all those young men and women start their journeys into life after high school.
I could not help but think how similar these teenagers are, members of the same graduating class, and similar looking in their formal cap and gown.
However, each graduate had one unique way of showing their individual personalities despite all their similarities - their footwear.
As the grads walked up to the stage to receive their high school diplomas, you got a glimpse at the wide range of footwear and what that said about their outlook for the future.
Sandals and flip flops - Grads who are relaxed and ready to take on any challenges with a laid back nature. Not stressed by job pressures.
Cowboy boots - Ready to work hard. Do not take anything for granted but rather work for their rewards.
Running shoes - Certainly prepared to run after their goals and dreams.
High Heels - These young ladies have poise and confidence as they walk into their futures.
Dress Shoes - A business like attitude will carry them far as they face many adult decisions in the coming years.
Chuck Taylor Converse All Stars - Simply too cool for school.
So, a belated congratulations to graduates across the Southwest, and walk proud into your futures.
