Iowa vocal jazz group in concert at SCCHS on March 9

A vocal jazz ensemble from Iowa will be sharing the concert stage with SCCHS students during a concert performance on March 9.

First Take, a six-member vocal jazz ensemble from the School for Music Vocations in Creston, Iowa, will be performing at the SCCHS Student Lounge on March 9 at 7 p.m. by Design, the auditioned vocal jazz ensemble from SCCHS, will also be performing during this special concert evening.

Advance tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door, in advance from any By Design member, or by contacting Colleen Roberts at croberts@chinooksd.ca.

SCCHS students will be participating in workshops with members of First Take, along with their director Jeremy Fox.

First Take performs a variety of musical styles and tours nationally or internationally each year. In 2005, First Take won an award from Downbeat Magazine for best College Vocal Jazz group, and in 2007 they performed at the International Association of Jazz Education Convention in New York.
