The Art Gallery of Swift Current is exhibiting works by a pair of well-known Saskatchewan artists during their current exhibition.
Solo exhibitions by artists MacGregor Hone and Bart Pragnell will run simultaneously until June 28.
Hone's distinctive prints have been a vital contribution to Saskatchewan art. Although he worked in many mediums throughout his long career, he continually returned to printmaking, creating an enormous body of work focused in rich and cull relief and block prints. The Prince Albert born artist taught art for 32 years at Regina's Central Collegiate. Hone participated in numerous group exhibitions, attended Emma Lake Artists' Workshops, and studied art in Saskatoon and London, England. Hone passed away in 2007, and this exhibition celebrates his dedication to the art of printmaking.
Pragnell attended the Winnipeg School of Art until 1932 and continued his art education in Chicago, Banff, Montreal, New York, and Victoria. Pragnell worked in numerous positions as an educator and coordinator, including supervisor of art curriculum for the Moose Jaw Public School Board, Principal of the Winnipeg School of Art, instructor for the Lethbridge School of Art and the University of Alberta. He worked as an artistic designer in cities across North America, and helped organize an arts and crafts program for the Royal Canadian Air Force. Pragnell's art reflected the dynamism inherent in man's existence on earth, endlessly finding new inspiration in composition. He was also interested in urban figurative scenes, such as social events, street scenes, leisure and work related activities. Pragnell passed away in 1966.
